RE: MFWR FEIS and PFC Review- 2017-05-11 13:32:24-04

Regan posted the question below regarding timing of the PFC Review.

Quick question on this relative to our new guidelines for time allowed (2 meetings) for reviewing, discussing, and finalizing "major decisions.":

As I understand it, the comment period on the ROD will be 45 days.  If the PFC does not get a look at the letter until the June 15 meeting, we will not possibly have 2 meetings over which to discuss the ROD, draft and review a letter, and decide on whether to send a letter, because the comment period will end around the end of June.  If the goal of the new "2 meeting" guideline is to have 1 meeting to discuss the topic (in this case, the ROD) and another to review/vote on our input (in this case, the letter), then in this case wouldn't that timeline start now, with us reviewing and discussing the ROD at this meeting, and making a plan for what elements a letter might have so that we could then review that letter prior to the June meeting (and then discuss and vote on the letter at the June meeting, prior to the comment period closing)?  This might be a good opportunity to discuss how we navigate federal comment periods but also work within the group's desire to have ample time for review and discussion.
