Forest Insect and Disease Workshop
 

Forest Health Protection specialists will be providing a Forest Insect and Disease Recognition Training session.  

 

Subject: Insect and Disease Educational Opportunity by FHP "Bugs 'n Crud"

 

Objectives: Upon completion of this course students should be able to:

      1. Recognize important forest insects & diseases encountered in the Intermountain West.

      2. Use the field guide to identify common forest insects and diseases.

 

WHEN: June 6 and 7

Day 1 (1/2 day):  On June 6th  from 1:00 to 4:30 PM.  A powerpoint session covering basic biology, identification and some management will be at tree cooler at the Council District warehouse.

 

Day 2:  The following day, June 7th, the field portion of the training will begin at 9:30 AM at Cabin Ck Campground and will conclude near No Business Saddle about 4:00 PM.  Due to access, Field Day locations are subject to change.  Contact Carl or Angel prior to June 5th, if you’re planning to just be there for the field day to receive any updates on field locations.

 

Where:  Council Ranger District on the Payette National Forest.

 

Intended Audience:  Training is for field crews, forest workers in any profession from all land management agencies, and for interested members of the public.

 

Cost:  Free!

 

Registration: No pre-registration is required, however seating may be limited for the PowerPoint session, so please email Carl or Angel by June 4th the number and/or names of attendees to help coordinate logistics or if there are any last minute changes.  Field Day locations subject to change day of due to access.  Contact Carl or Angel prior to June 5th, if you’re planning to just be there for the field day to receive any changes.

ALL STUDENTS PLEASE NOTE:

 

1. Bring your own lunch and favorite workday drinks.

2. Bring field gear:  hardhats, field boots, rain gear, & hatchet (if inclined to destructive tendencies).

3. If spending the night, make your own arrangements.

4. Please carpool as appropriate to limit the number of vehicles.

5. A field guide will be supplied, but quantities are limited.  Past participants should bring their copy.

6. Ask questions and be engaged.
