Thanks to the Committee for their good work on a big topic, and to John and Larry for the draft report.
- The report identifies positive impacts on the PFC. I'd like to add one: the increase in subscribers to the PFC email list. During the course of the Committee deliberations, the distribution list has increased by over twenty names, bringing the total number of subscribers to 142.
- For those not involved, here is a summary table from the Forest Plan that tabulates the current Land Use Designations on the 2.3 million acres of the Payette NF. Chapter III of the Forest Plan describes the designations in more detail.
- The NE Washington Forest Coalition took an innovative approach to land use on the Colville NF with the concept of "balanced land management". The group addressed three categories: Roadless/Wilderness, Restoration, and Active Management.

- This strategy may be a way to engage all interests on the PFC to support a permanent committee to address land use designations.
- In addition, a balanced land use designation goal may help change the scale of PFC efforts from detailed project analysis to landscape/forest objectives.
