Public land designation opportunities and options on the Payette National Forest

August 17, 2016

7-9 pm

Idaho First Bank, 475 Deinhard Ln, McCall, ID 83638

Join us for a meeting to learn about options for improving conservation and recreation opportunities on the Payette National Forest.

Our guest speakers are Brad Brooks with The Wilderness Society and Sandra Mitchell with the Idaho Recreation Council.

The August 17 meeting will review various land conservation designations to protect recreation and wildlife on public land. These designations range from Wilderness to Special Management Areas and can include administrative actions proposed by the Forest Service or legislative actions passed by Congress. We will also discuss what designations have been used in Idaho and the differences of those approaches. No proposal has been made for the Payette.

The meeting is sponsored by The Payette Forest Coalition (PFC), a collaborative group working to build diverse community support for forest restoration projects on the Payette National Forest.

The PFC formed a Land Allocation Committee to review current land designations, assess what is and is not working, and develop recommendations. Our group is hosting a series of listening sessions to hear from various stakeholders on their perspectives on land management designations.

The meeting is open to Payette Forest Coalition members and members of the public.

Everyone is also encouraged to attend the regular Payette Forest Coalition meeting, scheduled for Thursday, August 18 from 10-3 at the Forest Supervisor’s Office. You can find the agenda here:

Our next Committee meeting will be on September 14, 2016 and the topic will be Fisheries, whitewater kayaking and Wild and Scenic Rivers.
