PFC News: Invitation to the Land Allocation Committee Meeting

PFC Announcements

The Land Allocation Committee’s first official meeting is scheduled for this Wednesday, March 16 at the Pueblo Lindo restaurant in McCall from 7-8:30 pm. This is a great chance to discuss the goals of the Land Allocation Committee, tell folks about your own interests, learn about the Payette Forest Coalition’s broader work, and see if you want to engage any further.

Other folks who will be there include:
  • Rick Tholen with the Payette Forest Coalition, who will give an overview of the PFC’s restoration work.
  • Craig Gehrke with the Wilderness Society will talk about the collaborative approach used on the Owyhee Canyonlands.
  • Becky Johnstone with the Idaho Recreation Council will talk about motorized recreation on the Payette.
  • Michelle Reagan with Gravity Sports and Heather Thiry with Jug Mountain Ranch will talk about mountain biking opportunities.
We will hopefully hear from some other folks as well.

You are invited to attend and share your perspective about what is or is not working on the Payette regarding trail maintenance, designations and boundaries.

Eventual recommendations from this committee could include keeping the status quo, partnering on trail maintenance projects, adjusting current boundaries or discussing changes of designation. Possible designations include no change, National Recreation Areas, National Conservation Areas, Wilderness, and changing current Recommended Wilderness to a different designation. We have no recommendations at this time and are just assessing the existing Forest Plan.

If you have the time the next day, join us for our Payette Forest Coalition meeting on the following day, March 17.  The meeting runs from 10-3 at the Payette Supervisor’s Office. Attending from 10-11 in the morning would probably be sufficient to give you a flavor of the PFC’s work.

Ideally, we would love to have some new folks from the McCall community join the Payette Forest Coalition. l

Let me know if you are interested in attending Wednesday evening's meeting so I can set enough space aside at Pueblo Lindo.

Cheers,
